NUTRITION FOR FERTILITY

Good nutrition is so important for boosting fertility. A poor diet can lead to deficiencies in nutrients that are key to helping you get pregnant.  Take the mineral zinc, for example.  In women, a deficiency can lead to hormonal imbalances, lowered fertility and an increased possibility of miscarriage.  Zinc is essential for cell division in the foetus, while for men it can lead to a lowered sperm count.  And that’s just one mineral.  Other key nutrients for boosting fertility are magnesium, essential fatty acids, vitamin C, the B vitamins and more.  A nutritional therapy consultation can help you identify and correct any nutritional deficiencies.

When trying to become pregnant, it is important that both your digestion and liver are working well.  Firstly, you may be eating a healthy diet, but if your digestion isn’t working well, you may not be breaking down and absorbing the nutrients you need to get pregnant.

Secondly, poor digestive and liver function can contribute to hormonal imbalances.  This is because the liver detoxifies ‘old’ hormones from previous menstrual cycles, while the digestive system excretes them  from the body.  If your liver and digestion are struggling, it may mean that, instead of being excreted, the ‘old’ hormones are  circulated around your body.  This can cause a build-up of hormones, leading to hormonal imbalances, often an excess of oestrogen relative to progesterone.  Nutritional Therapy can help you optimise your liver and digestive systems and at the same time rebalance your hormones.

These are just some of the ways Nutritional Therapy can help you get pregnant.  Here is a brief outline of how Nutritional Therapy can help:

-         Nutritional Therapy can show you how to optimise your diet so that you are in the best of health when trying to conceive.

-         It can show you what the best nutritional and herbal supplements are to boost your fertility

-         A Nutritional Therapy consultation will highlight imbalances in your body which may be an obstacle to getting pregnant – for example, poor digestion, poor liver detoxification, hormonal imbalances etc.  By using the right foods, and sometimes nutritional and herbal supplements, you can overcome these imbalances

-         A consultation will show whether you are deficient in key nutrients required for a healthy pregnancy,  such as vitamins and minerals, fats etc.

-         Nutritional Therapy is helpful for relieving endometriosis, polycystic ovaries syndrome, fibroids and other conditions which can make it difficult to become pregnant

-         For women, while we can’t do anything about the quantity of eggs, optimum nutrition can do a lot to improve the quality of  your eggs

-         For men, optimum nutrition can improve the quality, quantity and mobility of sperm

-         Nutritional Therapy can work alongside IVF and other drug treatments to maximise your chances of conceiving
