Digestive Health

~  Good digestion is the foundation of good health   ~

Remember the phrase ‘You are what you eat’?  Well, another phrase equally applies: ‘you are what you absorb’.   Without good digestion you won’t properly absorb the nutrients from your foods and poor health can follow.   Poor digestion can cause not only digestive problems that many of us are familiar with– indigestion, stomach ulcers, bloating, wind, constipation, stomach cramps, IBS etc.  Poor digestion can also play a part in other illnesses – osteoporosis, arthritis, eczema, asthma, sinusitis, skin problems, ulcerative colitis, depression, ADHD, autism etc.

Quick tips for healthy digestion

If your digestion is out of balance, there are lots you can do to help it get back on track.  Healthy eating and de-stressing is essential.  Simple steps such as relaxing before meals and chewing well can really make a difference.  One tablespoon of ground flaxseeds will nourish and lubricate the digestive tract, as well as provide fibre to ease IBS, constipation or diarrhea.

A nutritional therapy consultation can highlight problem foods that may be aggravating your digestive problems.  It will also show you foods and herbs that can help to heal the digestive tract.
